Verónica Reyes (she/her) is the author of Chopper! Chopper! Poetry from Borderlands (Arktoi Books/Red Hen Press 2013). Her poetry shares the lived experiences of her communities: Mexican American, brown queers, immigrants, Latinx, y la jotería; her creative work contributes to the growing narrative of Chicana/o/x literature. She is also a member of Macondo. Verónica (nicknames: Ronnie or Vero) is a Chicana feminist marimacha daughter of immigrant parents: Maria Julia Socorro Hernández Reyes and Natividad A. Reyes. In East Los Angeles, she attended Belvedere Jr. High School (1984) and Garfield High School (1987). As a first-generation student, Reyes earned her BA from California State University, Long Beach (1995) and MFA from University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP 2000). As an adjunct professor, she has taught at El Paso Community College (Rio Grande & Valle Verde campuses) and Humber College (Toronto). Finally, Reyes is faculty in the Department of English at Cal State LA [a first-gen student population].
