The Good Hart Artist Residency offers two- to three-week residencies year-round to artists and writers, including poets, fiction writers, and creative nonfiction writers, in the woods bordering the “Tunnel of Trees” Scenic Heritage Route in Good Hart, Michigan, a village located on Lake Michigan. One artist or writer attends the residency at a time. The resident is provided with a private bedroom, a living room, an open loft with a reading area, a patio, a kitchen, and a bathroom. Residents also receive a $500 stipend (at least one additional childcare grant of $1,000 is offered to select residents annually); those attending between May 2025 and October 2026 also have access to a studio space with worktables and a 10-foot covered porch equipped with natural and track lighting. To apply for residencies in 2025 and early 2026, submit a writing sample that includes three to five pages from a current work-in-progress and up to five pages of a completed work, a résumé, a statement of intent, a community engagement statement, and contact information for two references with a $25 application fee by January 8, 2025. Application fee waivers based on financial need are available upon request via e-mail by January 3, 2025. Visit the website for complete guidelines.
Accessibility accommodations include accessible sidewalks, pathways, and doorways; an accessible main floor bathroom with grab bars; and accessible parking. Contact the executive director via phone or e-mail for additional accessibility details.
