The Orion Environmental Writers’ Workshop was held from June 16 to June 21 at the Omega Institute in Rhinebeck, New York. The program featured workshops (limited to 12 participants each), faculty readings, panels on publishing, and conversations with faculty members and Orion editors for poets, fiction writers, and creative nonfiction writers “seeking to reflect their environments through their work.” The faculty included poets Aimee Nezhukumatathil and Felicia Zamora; fiction and nonfiction writer Alexandra Kleeman; and nonfiction writers Alison Hawthorne Deming, Kathryn Miles, and Katrina Vandenberg. Tuition was $1,200 ($1,100 for the early-bird rate). Lodging, meals, and all-inclusive use of site facilities cost between $495 for those camping to $1,475 for a private cabin with a private bath. To apply, writers submitted up to six pages of poetry or up to 1,500 words of prose and a cover letter by May 1, or by March 15 for the early-bird rate. There was no application fee. Applications were accepted on a rolling basis. Visit the website for more information.
