The Salty Quill Writers’ Retreat for Women offers one-week residencies three times a year to twelve poets, fiction writers, nonfiction writers, and translators who identify as women at McGee Island, a 110-acre private island located three miles east of Port Clyde, Maine. Residents are provided with lodging at a turn-of-the-century oceanfront summer cottage in single- or shared-occupancy rooms, three chef-prepared meals a day, transportation to and from the island, and the opportunity to participate in after-dinner readings and critiques and to wander trails, kayak, or enjoy a sauna. The cost of the retreat is $2,075 to $2,900 depending on the room selection. To apply for a residency from September 7 to September 14 or from September 14 to September 21, e-mail to request a general application form. Applications, which require a 10-page writing sample, are accepted on a rolling basis. One full scholarship was available. To apply for the scholarship, writers e-mailed to request a scholarship application form. The deadline for scholarship applications, which required a 10-page writing sample, a 500-word personal statement, and a financial statement with a $30 application fee, was June 15.
