
Good Contrivance Farm, an educational nonprofit, offers residencies of up to four weeks year-round to poets, fiction writers, and creative nonfiction writers on a Victorian farm in Reisterstown, Maryland, located 24 miles north of Baltimore. Workshops and craft classes with visiting faculty are offered outdoors from May to September. The faculty includes poet and nonfiction writer Ross Gay, memoirist R. Eric Thomas, and publishing professional Jane Friedman (Jane Friedman Media). Residents are provided with private lodging in the renovated Barn Loft, which includes one bedroom, two bathrooms, a full kitchen, a dining area, and a library; or in the Hen House Cottage, which includes a sleeping area with a full-sized bed, a full kitchen, and a bathroom. The cost of the residency in the Barn Loft is $110 for an overnight stay ($145 for two people), $700 for a week ($800 for two people), $675 per week for a two- or three-week stay ($749 for two people), or $2,800 for a month ($3,000 for two people). The cost of the residency in the Hen House Cottage is $95 for an overnight stay, $625 for a week, $600 per week for a two- or three-week stay, or $2,000 for a month.
