The Tremont Writers Conference was held from October 23 to October 27 at the Great Smoky Mountains Institute at Tremont in a secluded campus in Townsend, Tennessee. The conference featured workshops, author readings, and craft talks for poets, fiction writers, and nonfiction writers, as well as outdoor activities, including hikes and campfires. Creative writers who were age 18 and over were eligible. The faculty included poet Maurice Manning, fiction writer Monic Ductan, and nonfiction writer David Brill. Frank X Walker was a guest poet. Lodging was available on Tremont’s campus in shared bunkrooms with access to showers and bathrooms; several walk-in tents with bunks and mattresses are available by reservation on a first-come, first-served basis. Off-site lodging was available in local inns and hotels. The cost to attend the full conference, including workshops, lodging, and meals, was $1,600. Financial aid scholarships were available upon request. To apply, writers submitted a writing sample of 10 pages of poetry (one poem per page) or up to 5,000 words of prose with a $4 application fee by April 30. Visit the website for more information.
