The Wonder Mountain Desert Cabin, sponsored by You Joy Life, offers two-week residencies year-round to poets, fiction writers, nonfiction writers, and translators at the Wonder Mountain Open Source Center, 15 miles northeast of Joshua Tree National Park on the ancestral homelands of the Serrano, Cahuilla, Chemehuevi, and Mohave (Mojave) indigenous communities in California. Residents are provided with a private bedroom, desk, and patio in a newly renovated, ranch-style house, as well as shared bathrooms. Residents also share access to a kitchen, a work space, an outdoor deck, and a hand-carved stone tub filled with mineral spring water from the on-site aquifer. The cost of the residency is $1,800. To apply, submit up to five poems of any length or 10 to 20 pages of prose (excerpts from a work-in-progress are accepted), a personal statement, a brief project proposal, and an artist statement with a $15 application fee. Admissions are rolling. Visit the website for complete guidelines.
