Self-publishing company iUniverse was recently acquired by one of its competitors, the Bloomington, Indiana-based AuthorHouse, Publishers Weekly recently reported. Founded in October 1999, iUniverse became one of the leading providers of self-publishing services—early on, Barnes & Noble invested in the company and started offering iUniverse books for sale online and in its stores. The company publishes approximately four hundred books each month.
AuthorHouse, which was founded in 1997, publishes between five hundred and six hundred books each month. Both iUniverse and AuthorHouse have three offices; there are no plans to close any locations or to cut production at either company.
