From September 25 through 27, the Zora Neale Hurston/Richard Wright Foundation, a nonprofit organization serving African American writers, will host Author Pavilion, a three-day book festival held in the nation's capital in celebration of African American literature and scholarship. The program features opportunities to meet with writers as well as performances of poetry and panel discussions.
Participating writers, including spoken-word poets, novelists, and memoirists, will be on hand to engage with what the foundation anticipates to be "an informed crowd of elected officials, activists, students and representatives." Scholars of the African American literary experience will also be in attendance to promote their books.
The free event, held at the Washington Convention Center, coincides with another D.C. literary event: The Library of Congress's National Book Festival takes place on September 27 on the National Mall.
