The first annual National Book Festival, sponsored by First Lady Laura Bush and Librarian of Congress James H. Billington, will be held at the Library of Congress on September 8. The festival includes readings, book signings, and musical performances. Featured authors include Stephen Ambrose, A. Scott Berg, Lucille Clifton, Michael Collier, Walter Mosley, Gary Soto, and Scott Turow, among others.
Bush, a former librarian who helped establish the annual Texas Book Festival in Austin in 1996, said she hopes the National Book Festival "will encourage all Americans to take advantage of the remarkable resources for lifetime learning available in our nation's libraries."
More information on the festival can be found at the Library of Congress Web site: www.loc.gov/bookfest.
