On Thursday, June 22, the Madison Square Park Conservancy launched a free series of summer readings in Madison Square Park, located between 23rd and 26th streets and Fifth and Madison avenues in New York City. The readings, which are devoted to different aspects of New York life and history, will take place every Thursday evening at 6:30 P.M.
Notable authors participating in Mad. Sq. Reads 2006 include Kevin Baker, the author of the City of Fire trilogy of historical novels, who will read on July 13; Pete Hamill, the author of the memoir A Drinking Life (Little, Brown, 1994), who will read on July 20; and fiction writer Amy Hempel, who will read on August 10. The Collected Stories of Amy Hempell was recently published by Scribner.
