MacDowell offers residencies of up to six weeks year-round to poets, fiction writers, creative nonfiction writers, and translators on 450 acres near Mt. Monadnock in Peterborough, New Hampshire. Residents are provided with a private studio and work space, as well as access to the James Baldwin Library. Stipends and travel reimbursement grants were available based on financial need. To apply for residencies from March 2025 through August 2025, writers submitted 6 to 10 poems (totaling no more than 15 pages) or 15 to 25 pages of prose and a project proposal with a $30 application fee from August 1 to September 10. Following these guidelines, translators submitted a writing sample of poetry or prose in English along with the matching selection in the original language. Visit the website for complete guidelines.

Accessibility accommodations include elevator access to MacDowell’s meeting space, dining space, and kitchen; accessible dormitories; accessible showers and bathrooms with handrails; and accessible parking. Contact the resident director via phone or at dmacy@macdowell.org for additional accessibility details.
