It took more than six months, but the Fine Arts Work Center (FAWC) in Provincetown, Massachusetts, has finally found a new executive director: Margaret Murphy. President Marty Davis and Hatty Walker Fitts, cochair of the FAWC's board of trustees, announced last week that Murphy will assume her duties as executive director on Monday. The position had been vacant since January, when former executive director Hunter O'Hanian, who had held the position for ten years, left Provincetown to become president of the Anderson Ranch Arts Center in Snowmass Village, Colorado. John Skoyles had been serving as interim director since then.
Murphy, a New York City attorney, founded the Bank Street Law Office, a nonprofit legal services organization. She served as executive director there for the last seven years. The FAWC, founded in 1968 by poet Stanely Kunitz and others, has provided housing and stipends to more than five hundred emerging artists from the United States and abroad.
