The Publishers Marketing Association (PMA) is celebrating its twenty-fifth anniversary by changing its name to the Independent Book Publishers Association (IBPA). Founded in 1983 and based in Manhattan Beach, California, the nonprofit association of presses sponors the annual Benjamin Franklin Awards, given for excellence in independent publishing.

The nonprofit organization will unveil its new name at a ceremony tomorrow, the first day of BookExpo America in Los Angeles. IBPA president Florrie Binford Kichler told Publishers Weekly last week that the new name "truly reflects our mission," which is to advance independent publishing through professional development, cooperative marketing, and industry affiliations and to support free speech and the right to publish without restriction.
