The social networking Web site Gather.com recently launched a contest that offers creative writers a chance to sell their submissions through Amazon Shorts, a program developed by Amazon.com that sells short stories and essays in a digital format for forty-nine cents each. Amazon Shorts is currently open only to writers who have at least one book for sale on Amazon.com.

During the months of July, August, and September, writers can submit fiction and creative nonfiction entries, which will then be posted on the Gather.com Web site for other members to read and evaluate. The three highest-rated works from each month, as well as a selection by the Web site’s editors, will be made available for sale through Amazon Shorts.
