Author's Bio

Because my last two novels, VIVALDI'S VIRGINS and A GOLDEN WEB, are set in Italy, I have a particular interest and some expertise in all things Italian. As the author of VIVALDI'S VIRGINS, which is set in the Ospedale della Pieta where Antonio Vivaldi was resident priest and music master, I've been invited to give pre-concert lectures for several major symphony and/or chamber orchestras. Along with my husband, Wayne Roden (a violist in the San Francisco Symphony), I do a performance called "Words & Music," based on VIVALDI'S VIRGINS and performed now at venues including the Sonoma Arts Festival, the UC San Diego Faculty Club, and fundraisers for the San Francisco Symphony. My fourth novel, scheduled to be published by Regal House Publishing in 2021, is set in France and Russia in the first decades of the twentieth century, in the world of ballet. My poems have been published in a variety of print and online magazines. For several years (until the company fell apart), I worked as a free-lance writer under contract to Yahoo as one of their Small Business Advisors, writing profiles of online and social entrepreneurs. My essays and reviews have been commissioned and published by the NY Times Book Review, Newsweek, People, National Geographic, the Los Angeles Times, Ms., Cosmopolitan and several specialty magazines. I have taught writing workshops at Book Passage in Corte Madera, Prescott College in Arizona, UC Santa Cruz and UC Irvine. I had the honor of speaking at UC Santa Cruz (my alma mater) in their Living Writers Series.
