Author's Bio

David Stanford Burr authored Ledger Domain (poems), The Poet’s Notebook: Inspiration, Techniques, and Advice on Craft, and was the selection editor of seven hardcover poetry anthologies. He taught at New York University as an adjunct associate professor leading poetry workshops for twenty-five years, was a managing editor at Macmillan Publishers for thirty-six years, and has edited nearly three hundred poetry books, including the last seventeen Best American Poetry series annuals. He continues to freelance edit.

For the last six years David has researched World War I and written poems from the perspectives of the British Expeditionary Force in the trenches on the Western Front and from Blighty’s home front. “Lest We Forget—Again … : Poems from the Great War,” a 132-page full-length collection seeking publication, presents a lyrical and imaginative rendering of the manifold experiences of trench stalemate—harrowing in its general and random violence, revealing those banal periods of waiting for something to happen and providing trench humor that is not always black.

David has a second full-length manuscript making the rounds.

He lives in New Jersey with his wife and is enjoying retirement by combining his academic interests in history and English while envisioning the Great War.
