Author's Bio

It starts with words, always, the person I am. Or bird songs. I am a poet, educator, and editor who grew up in rural Iowa and has lived most of my life in the city of Los Angeles. It would be hard for me to leave this beautiful place though I travel frequently, now mostly out of the country.
I am on the verge of having a new book out--A WILD SURMISE: NEW & SELECTED POEMS & RECORDINGS from Red Hen Press. My imprint with Red Hen, Arktoi Books, specializes in publishing high quality work by lesbian authors. In 2006, I retired from teaching after having spent 42 years in classrooms and workshop settings of all kinds. Antioch University Los Angeles was my last "home,"
and The MFA In Creative Writing Program was my last major institutional project. It keeps on splendidly and that was part of the plan. My life so far has been overall a happy one. Sometimes a gravel road, but usually good views.
