Author's Bio

Writing is my second life—in my first life I was a biologist, tramping the fields and woods of Colorado looking for hawks, owls, sparrows, bats, frogs, and other wildlife, and later, a technician in a spotless genetics laboratory. I bring both histories to my writing and editing work. All of my writing is marked by the skepticism I learned as a biologist, and as both writer and editor I’m not afraid of the nitty-gritty numbers or of tackling the big-picture questions. My varied employment history has led me to a fascination with process—I’m as interested in how a scientist arrived at her conclusions as what that conclusion is.
