Eric Borsuk

Eric Borsuk is the author of American Animals, the memoir featured in the acclaimed motion picture of the same name, currently streaming on multiple platforms, and hailed by Booklist as “a raucous and outrageous coming-of-age tale.” The Chicago Tribune describes the film as “an epic, operatic modern tragedy, examining the murky depths of a uniquely American modern existential crisis.” Since its premiere at Sundance Film Festival, this multi-award winning, true story has been praised around the world, from NBC’s "TODAY” show, to the British Independent Film Awards, and earning a Critics’ Choice Seal of Distinction. Borsuk has written for such award-winning publications as The Marshall Project, Vice Magazine, and Virginia Quarterly Review. In addition, he consults for nonprofit justice reform organizations around the U.S. to spotlight stories of individuals impacted by the criminal justice system and incarceration. Borsuk's 2022 essay, "The Art of Bidding” (or "Bidders of the Din"), about the U.S. federal prison system, received the 2022 Sidney Award from David Brooks of The New York Times, and is featured in "Longreads' Best of 2022," as well as The Best American Essays 2023 (Mariner, 2023), edited by Robert Atwan and Vivian Gornick. Borsuk lives in Brooklyn where he serves on the board of directors of FREER Records, the nation’s first nonprofit record label for prison-impacted musicians.
