Author's Bio

Ivan Brady is Distinguished Teaching Professor Emeritus and previous Chair of Anthropology at the State University of New York at Oswego. A former President of the Society for Humanistic Anthropology and Chair of the Association for Social Anthropology in Oceania, he also served as Book Review Editor of the American Anthropologist for seven years. He is the editor or co-editor of several books, dozens of chapters, articles, and reviews. His poetry has appeared in various books and journals in several disciplines, including Reflections: The Anthropological Muse (Iain Prattis, ed., 1985), The American Tradition in Qualitative Research (N. K. Denzin and Y. S. Lincoln, eds., 2001), The Qualitative Inquiry Reader (N. K. Denzin and Y. S. Lincoln, eds., 2002), Poetic Inquiry: Vibrant Voices in the Social Sciences (M. Prendergast, C. Leggo, & P. Sameshima, eds., 2009), the Neuroanthropology Network Newsletter, Anthropology and Humanism (Quarterly), drunken boat: online journal of the arts, Pendulum, Cultural Studies <—> Critical Methodologies, Qualitative Inquiry, Philosophy Now, and the International Review of Qualitative Research. His latest book on poetics is The Time at Darwin’s Reef: Poetic Explorations in Anthropology and History (AltaMira 2003). His new book collection, Language Tinder, is currently underway.
