Jacki Apple

Visual, performance and media artist and writer, critic, curator,  and educator for five decades, Jacki Apple’s diverse artistic career has encompassed a wide range of media, contexts and forms including narrative multimedia installations, interdisciplinary performances, photography, audio, radio, film, artists books,and public art works. Her critical writings on art and culture include several hundred published essays, feature articles, and reviews. She currently writes a column Peripheral Visions:Perspectives on Performance, Media and Culture on the Fabrik magazine website https://fabrikmagazine.com/peripheral-vi.... Her new book Performance/Media/Art/Culture: Selected Essays 1983-2018 from Intellect, U.K. Fall 2019, distributed in USA by Univ. of Chicago Press. Her creative writing includes scripts and texts for performance works, radio works, artists books, and screenplays. Her books include Trunk Pieces, Visual Studies Workshop 1978, and The Tower (with Helen Thorington) 2015 in the collections  of Huntington Library, MoMA NYC, Fales Library, NYU, Getty Research Institute, Brooklyn Museum, among others. Her audio works have been featured in numerous LP, cassette, and CD anthologies, and her CDs include Thank You For Flying American, ghost.dances and The Mexican Tapes LP. She is Professor Emerita, Art Center College of Design, Pasadena, CA 1983-2017. She was the 2012 recipient of the College Art Association Distinguished Teaching of Art Award.
