Author's Bio

I’m an award-winning author and educator whose work in three genres—fiction, poetry, and creative nonfiction—focuses strongly on place, culture, and the natural environment. I have an especially deep interest in Central Asia, where I lived and worked for four years, and I’ve traveled widely along the Great Silk Road and twice bicycled throughout Great Britain.

I’m the author of four full-length books and chapbooks: Ships in the Desert (SFWP, 2022), winner of several post-publication awards, including a Foreword INDIES Book of the Year Award; A Husband and Wife Are One Satan (Orison Books, 2021), winner of the Orison Chapbook Prize; Making Love While Levitating Three Feet in the Air (Stephen F. Austin State University Press, 2016), winner of an Eyelands International Book Award; and Lake, and Other Poems of Love in a Foreign Land (Standing Rock Cultural Arts, 2011), winner of the Standing Rock Cultural Arts Open Poetry Chapbook Competition.

I’ve taught writing and literature for many years and conducted numerous workshops, both in the U.S. and abroad. I currently live in the Pacific Northwest and am at work on various writing projects. I’m available for workshops, readings, and related areas. Please contact me through my website listed above.
