Author's Bio

Jessica McCann is a published historical novelist (All Different Kinds of Free; Peculiar Savage Beauty) and creative nonfiction author (WORDS: Essays on Reading, Writing, and Life). Her articles have been published in dozens of magazines, including Business Week, The Writer and Phoenix. She writes and speaks about the craft of fiction and creative nonfiction writing.

McCann’s novel, Peculiar Savage Beauty, was named 2018 Arizona Book of the Year by the Arizona Authors Association  and shortlisted for the 2020 Rubery Book Award. Her debut historical novel, All Different Kinds of Free, won the Freedom in Fiction Prize from the Mackinac Center for Public Policy in 2009. Her short story, "Night Window," placed third in the River Styx Microfiction Contest in 2010. Her novel-in-progress placed third in the Chapter One Prize in 2021.
