Author's Bio

Kate Buckley's poems have appeared in Bellingham Review, The Cafe Review, North American Review, Shenandoah, Slipstream and elsewhere. She holds an MFA from Spalding University and is the author of A Wild Region (Moon Tide Press, 2008). and Follow Me Down (Tebot Bach, 2009). A four-time Pushcart Prize nominee, her awards include a Gabeheart Prize and the North American Review's James Hearst Poetry Prize. She is currently serving as the first Poet Laureate of Laguna Beach (2017 - 2018).

Honors & Awards include: 2007 Gabehart Prize for Imaginative Writing for poetry, 2008 Joy Bale Boone Poetry Prize (2nd place & finalist), 2008 Bellingham Review's The 49th Parallel Award in Poetry (Runner Up), 2008 New Southerner Literary Contest (finalist), 2008 Atlanta Review's International Poetry Competition (finalist), 2008 Red Hen Press's Ruskin Art Club Poetry Award (shortlisted), and the 2008 North American Review's James Hearst Poetry Prize, selected by Molly Peacock. Kate's fiction has been shortlisted for the Bridport Prize, and she has also been nominated for four Pushcart Prizes. In April 2017, she was appointed the first Poet Laureate of Laguna Beach.
