Author's Bio

Linda Nemec Foster is the author of fourteen collections of poetry including The Lake Huron Mermaid (Wayne State University Press), Amber Necklace from Gdansk (LSU Press), Talking Diamonds (New Issues Press), The Lake Michigan Mermaid (Wayne State University Press) which was a 2019 Michigan Notable Book, and The Blue Divide (New Issues Press). Bone Country (Cornerstone Press) is her first full-length collection of prose poems and was selected a Distinguished Favorite in the NYC Big Book Awards for Poetry in 2024. Her work has been published in numerous magazines and journals such as The Georgia Review, Nimrod, Quarterly West, Witness, New American Writing, North American Review, Paterson Literary Review, Vox Populi, and Presence. Foster’s poems have also appeared in anthologies from the U.S. and UK, been translated in Europe, inspired original music compositions, and have been produced for the stage. She has received nominations for the Pushcart Prize and has been honored by the Arts Foundation of Michigan, ArtServe Michigan, the National Writer’s Voice, the Academy of American Poets, Best Small Fictions Anthology, Best Spiritual Literature, and the Fish Anthology (Ireland). From 2003-05, she served as the first Poet Laureate of Grand Rapids, Michigan. In 2015, she was honored by the Dyer-Ives Foundation for her poetry and advocacy of the literary arts in Michigan. In the fall of 2019, she was a guest lecturer in contemporary American poetry at the University of Bielsko-Biala in Poland. Foster is the founder of the Contemporary Writers Series at Aquinas College.
