Liza Monroy is the author of the collection of linked essays Seeing As Your Shoes Are Soon To Be On Fire, the memoir The Marriage Act: The Risk I Took To Keep My Best Friend In America…And What It Taught Us About Love (Counterpoint/Soft Skull), and the debut novel Mexican High (Spiegel & Grau/Random House). Her articles and essays have appeared in numerous publications, including The New York Times, The New York Times Magazine, The Los Angeles Times, O, The Oprah Magazine, Poets & Writers, Marie Claire, Newsweek, Village Voice, Everyday With Rachael Ray, Jane, Self, Psychology Today, Bust, Catamaran, and various anthologies, including The New York Times Best of Modern Love collection, Goodbye To All That: Writers on Loving and Leaving New York, One Big Happy Family, and Wedding Cake For Breakfast. The daughter of a U.S. Foreign Service officer, Liza has lived and worked in Mexico, Italy, Holland, the Czech Republic, Greece, and the United States. She has taught writing at Columbia University, and currently teaches at UCLA Extension, Mediabistro.com, and UC Santa Cruz. She divides her time between New York and California.
