Author's Bio

The daughter of a song and dance man and an actress, Maria Chisolm was born in Washington DC, spent her early childhood  in London and Australia before returning to the United States. She is the author of two collections of poetry, Sudan’s Angels and Burnt Orange. Her poems have appeared in Essence Magazine; 50BOLDMOBIUS, The Poetry Magazine; and Silver Tongued Devil Anthology; among other publications. She’s been a guest on Hugh Hamilton’s Talk Back Radio Show (WBAI, 99.5 FM, NYC), William Washington’s One on Poetry (Instagram live stream), and has read  her work at The Ensemble Theater, The Drama Bookshop, Cornelia Street Cafe, Three of Cups, Park Plaza  Restaurant, and Queens Public Library in New York, and Issyra Gallery in New Jersey, among other venues. She’s even appeared on a Times Square digital billboard. Maria has studied with the late director/ actor Adolph Caesar,  actor/playwright Paul Benjamin, and musician/writer Norman Riley. She works in Advertising and currently lives in Jersey City.
