Miz Floes

Poet, Spoken Word Artist

Author's Bio

Miz Floes is an ever evolving BIPOC artistic implant into the Seattle area. Her style of writing has been described as refreshing, informative, intellectual, humorous, and at times, sensual. Miz Floes is no stranger to the impact that crime and poverty can have on urban families; these are the very conditions that surrounded her daily, as an at-risk youth in Chicago. Through literature she located an escape from personal trauma. What began as an escape soon transformed into passion; In 2004 her literary journey led Miz to Seattle; where she is a current member of the African American Writer’s Alliance, and also a Griot / Storyteller with the Griot Party Experience.

Supporting her continued evolution as a writer, Miz Floes has taken on the challenge of writing, directing and producing theater.  As a result she has produced three successful "Spoken Word" theatrical productions; the last of which was a sold out show!

Miz professes that she is the proud recipient of the 2021 Gap Award, and the 2022 Artist at the Center, 2023 4Culture Projects, and 2022 Uptown Storefronts grants.

Miz Floes’s mature, steady approach and smooth lyrics are suited for a more sophisticated audience. The band does not overpower her voice and her talent is not bound to one style.
– Teresa Castillo (Colors NW Magazine)

Miz Floes offers poetry that is refreshing, informative, intellectual, funny, and the list goes on.
Every poem within her collection is prolific in its own right. Her use of rhyme and intellect are ingenious!
– Doug Poole (Blackmail Press)
