Nishi Chawla is an academician and a writer. She has seven collections of poetry, ten plays, four feature length movies and two novels, to her credit. She has also co edited an anthology of poems, "Singing in the Dark," with K Satchidanandan in 2020. The book has been published by Penguin Random House. Another poetry anthology, "Greening the Earth" has been published by Penguin Random House in May 2023.
Nishi Chawla holds a Ph. D. in English from The George Washington University, Washington, D.C. USA. She has also done a two year post doctoral study at the Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, Md. After teaching for nearly twenty years as a tenured Professor of English at Delhi University, India, she had migrated with her family to a suburb of Washington D.C. She has taught at the University of Maryland from 1999 until 2014. She is now on the faculty of Thomas Edison State University, New Jersey, USA.

Nishi Chawla has also written and directed four independent movies titled, "Mixed Up," "The Strange Case Of Normalcy" and "TechNous." "Mixed Up" and "TechNous" are streaming on Amazon Prime. Her fourth feature film, "The Peaec Activists" is focused on Gandhi, Thoreau, and MLK. Nishi Chawla is passionate about the cause of peace and non-violence. Nishi Chawla writes on social issues, and makes art house movies.
