An award-winning South African writer, I teach postcolonial literature(s) and creative writing at Austin College in Sherman, North Texas. At present, I hold to this quatrain by William Plomer: "That was the Africa we knew / Where, wandering alone, / We saw, heraldic in the heat / A scorpion on a stone."
