Rich Murphy’s Footholds, a collection of poems, was published fall 2023 by Cyberwit, India. First Aid was published by Resource Publications at Wipf and Stock in summer of 2023. Meme Measure was published by Resource Publications in 2022. His poetry has won The Poetry Prize at Press Americana twice The Left Behind (2021) and Americana (2013) and Gival Press Poetry Prize Voyeur (2008). Space Craft by Resource Publications also came out in 2021. Books Prophet Voice Now, essays, by Common Ground Research Network and Practitioner Joy, poetry by Resource Publications were published in 2020. He has published others. 

His poems have been published widely in poetry journals in the US and abroad, including Poetry Magazine, Grand Street, Rolling Stone, Trespass, New Letters, Pank, Segue, EOAGH, North Dakota Quarterly, Experiential-Experimental-Literature (Ukraine), Terror House Magazine (Hungary), Otoliths (Australia), Die Leere Mitte (Germany), Bangalore Review (India), Lit. 202 (England), Neologism Poetry Journal, Word for / Word, Review Americana, West Texas Literary Review, New Note Poetry Journal, Grey Sparrow, Chiron Review, Flatbush Review, and Fractured Ecologies (anthology, Denmark). The list begins in the early 1970s.

Murphy’s critical essays have been published in The International Journal of the Humanities, Journal of Ecocriticism, Imaginary Syllabus, and Reconfigurations: A Journal for Poetics Poetry/Literature and Culture, among others. Some of these essays on poetics and poetry were collected in Prophetic Voice Now (2020). He has taught at several colleges and universities where he has directed writing programs while teaching creative and academic writing and literature. Most recently, he is a guest lecturer at Massachusetts College of Art and Design and lives in Marblehead, Massachusetts.
