Robert Dassanowsky is Professor of German and Film, and Director of Film Studies at the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs, and works as an independent film producer. A past president of the Austrian Studies Association, he is a member of both PEN USA and PEN Austria, serves on the Society of Cinema and Media Studies Translation/Publication Committee, and as founding board member of the Alexander Lernet-Holenia Society. He is an elected member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts, the Academy of Austrian Film, the European Film Academy, and is a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society. His non-fiction books include Austrian Cinema: A History (2005), New Austrian Cinema ed. with Oliver Speck (2011), Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds: A Manipulation of Metafilm, ed. (2012), World Film Locations: Vienna ed. (2012), and Screening Transcendence: Film Under Austrofascism and the Hollywood Hope 1933-1938 (2018).

In addition to several academic and film festival awards, Dassanowsky received a Pushcart Prize nomination in 2000, was elected to the European Academy of Sciences and Arts in 2001, and named the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching/CASE U.S. Professor of the Year for Colorado in 2004. Austria awarded him its Order of Merit for his work cultural and film studies in 2005 and he was named a Fellow of the UK Royal Historical Society (FRHistS) in 2007.
