Beatnik Cafe is a monthly poetry series, hosted by Hanna Pachman at the tea cafe, Hey Hey (1555 Sunset Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90026). There are 1-2 featured readers followed by an open mic. The next event will feature the poets, Beverly Lafontaine and Sarah Maclay on May 28th at 4 pm. Please come 10 minutes early if you are interested in signing up for the poetry open mic.

Poet Beverly Lafontaine enjoys collaborating with artists working in other genres. She happily contributed poems to visual artist Kim Abeles' tribute to Martin Luther King titled Walk a Mile in My Shoes, a public art project commissioned by the City of Los Angeles. Six of her poems were fashioned into Scenes from Sarajevo, a prize-winning chamber music work by composer Tom Flahertty.

Sarah Maclay’s Nightfall Marginalia, her fifth collection, is due out this fall from What Books Press. A recipient of a City of LA Individual Artist Fellowship, a Yaddo residency, the Tampa Review Prize for Poetry and a Pushcart Special Mention, her poems and essays have appeared in Poetry International, APR, FIELD, Ploughshares, The Tupelo Quarterly, TLR, Anacapa Review, The Writer’s Chronicle, Hotel Amerika, The Best American Erotic Poetry: From 1800 to the Present and elsewhere. You’ll often find her at LMU and Beyond Baroque.
