Editorial Focus
Coneflower Cafe focuses on literary short stories. We do not accept any story shorter than 3,000 words or longer than 10,000 words. We also publish poetry and art in our magazine, but we have separate submission guideline webpages for each creative genre. Stories should demonstrate original thought, subtlety, wisdom, and appearl to broader perspectives with something of a conventional plot.
Tips From the Editor
For poetry, we are looking for lyric poems and narratives that display the writer’s natural voice, that are as well written as prose, and that are drawn from the writer's own experiences. Short fiction submissions should be original (unpublished, not AI-generated) stories containing between 3,000 and 10,000 words that show originality, subtlety, wisdom, and appeal to broader perspectives, while adhering to typical story qualities (i.e. character development and a clear plot).
