Editorial Focus
Map Literary is dedicated to celebrating quality works of new literature. Rather than aligning with any one aesthetic, they aspire to promote the finest provocative writing of the time, publishing semiannual issues of original fiction, poetry, and nonfiction in an online format, with occasional letterpress print supplements. Their editorial team also runs the annual Rachel Wetzsteon Chapbook Award.
Tips From the Editor
In fiction, we revel in pieces that possess poetic texture, employ intense figurative language and sophisticated prose rhythms. We enjoy fabulism as well as works of experimental and flash fiction but, above all, the emotional component is crucial. For examples of what we are interested in, you might explore the works of David Means, Ben Marcus, Ludmilla Petrushevskaya or Rivka Galchen.
In poetry, we are drawn to poetry that knows what year it is. Regardless of allegiance, our favorite lyric or meditative poems exist as a record of a process. They allow themselves to be in uncertainties. They beg to be reread, even if they are simple.
