Editorial Focus
Founded in 1998, Meridian has featured the works of numerous Pulitzer Prize winners, National Book Award winners, and established writers. However, as a magazine edited by young writers, we value nothing more than showcasing tomorrow’s talent, often publishing a new author’s first story or poem.
Tips From the Editor
Like most literary magazines, we recommend reading our journal before submitting. Our editors are MFA students, emerging authors who aspire to create tomorrow’s literary fiction and poetry, and that should tell you something about the kind of work we're looking for: fresh, new writing. We’re not hugely experimental (publishing mostly realist fiction and lyric/narrative free verse), but we’re open to works that play with form and reader expectations, as long as the work is serious in its efforts and treats our readers with the respect they deserve. Literary nonfiction is welcomed.
