Author's Bio

David Van Wie is the author of Storied Waters (Stackpole Books, 2019), a book about his epic six-week odyssey from Maine to Wisconsin and back to visit and fish in rivers and ponds that have appeared in fly fishing literature. David was lead author of The Confluence (2016, Peter E. Randall Publisher), “a collection of essays, art and tall tales” about fly fishing and friendship with six of his college classmates in New Hampshire’s Second College Grant.

After a 35+ year career in environmental science and policy, David now teaches a graduate class in environmental journalism at Dartmouth College. He also writes a monthly column for The Maine Sportsman. His writing has appeared Northern Woodlands, Maine Sunday Telegram, Dartmouth Alumni Magazine, and The American Fly Fisher. He is a member of the Outdoor Writers Association of America. David administers the annual Robert Traver Fly-fishing Writing Award for the John D. Voelker Foundation and the American Museum of Fly Fishing. He and his wife Cheryl Bascomb live in Lyme, NH where he is working on a historical novel set in New Netherland in the 1640s.
