Prizes won:

Although James Penha is primarily a poet (whose collection No Bones To Carry won the 2007 New Sins Press Editors' Prize), his fiction as well as his prose adaptations of Indonesian and other folk tales have been widely published. A collection of these stories (Snakes and Angels) won the 2009 Cervena Barva chapbook competition. His original speculative story “By the Banyan Tree” is included in the 2018 Lambda Literary Award winning anthology His Seed. He has been a finalist in the 2016, 2017, 2018, 2023, and 2024 Saints and Sinners Literary Festival Contests.
