Author's Bio

Jayne Marek, professor emerita of English with a Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin, also earned an M.F.A. from the University of Notre Dame. She now makes her home in the Pacific Northwest where she writes, photographs, and learns about natural history. She has held residencies at Playa, the Helen C. Whiteley Center, and Hypatia-in-the Woods and participated in the Port Townsend Writers' Conference, Skagit River Poetry Festival, LITFuse, and Orion workshops. Winner of the Last Stanza Poetry Journal Editor's Choice Award and the Bill Holm Witness Poetry Contest (twice), and nominated for Best of the Net and Pushcart Prizes, she has also received two NEH fellowships for literary scholarship. Her collections include two new poetry books, Dusk-Voiced, forthcoming in 2024, and Torrential, due in 2025, The Tree Surgeon Dreams of Bowling (2018), In and Out of Rough Water (2017), the chapbooks Why Horses? Red Mare #13 (2017) and Imposition of Form on the Natural World (2013), and the pamphlet River Triptych (2017). Other selections of her work appear in the poetry/art volume Triple #10 (Ravenna Press, 2020) and Company of Women: New and Selected Poems (a co-authored volume, 2013). She also wrote Women Editing Modernism (1995), a scholarly work, and compiled the Index to Poetry Magazine, 1912-1987 (1988).
