Author's Bio

For over thirty years, Dr. Vint Virga has been a distinguished journalist and specialist in wildlife conservation and behavior recognized for his insights into our relationship with animals. His expertise spans the animal kingdom, encompassing all species from polar bears and leopards to gorillas and giraffes. He travels internationally as an advisor on wildlife conservation and welfare for nature preserves and refuges, zoological parks and gardens, animal stewardship foundations, and governmental agencies. His work around the globe as a journalist and doctor he has been profiled in the New York Times, and featured on NPR Fresh Air, ABC World News, and National Geographic Explorer, and PBS Nature. His first book, The Soul of All Living Creatures is a winner of the Silver Nautilus Award. In recognition of his writing as journalist and author, he has been awarded three MacDowell Fellowships, a Brown Foundation Fellowship, an Eleanor Briggs Fellowship, a Hawthornden Fellowship, a George and Kate Kendall Fellowship, and literary residencies at The MacDowell Colony, Maison Dora Maar, Ucross Foundation, Yaddo, The Bloedel Reserve, Willapa Bay AiR, Brush Creek Foundation for the Arts, and The Hambidge Center for the Creative Arts & Sciences. Working one-on-one with endangered creatures, he brings his bedside manner as a doctor as he relates to audiences with insight, humor, and compassion. From his life in the field working intimately with so many varied species, he offers viewers a wholly unique viewpoint on our relationship with other creatures and our shared future on this planet.
