W. Nick Hill

W. Nick Hill’s most recent book of poems, Sleight Work, appeared under a Creative Commons copyright on his website (wnickhill@olympus.net) in November 2018. Its manual, hand-made character, are meant to accompany the situation of a busker or a beggar wanting to let you in on a few tricks of its magic. Start with some hard facts like monolingualism and end with a deep sense of gratitude for the hand in your own. In early 2019, Sleight Work became available as an Ebook on Smashwords and other online book distributors: Barnes & Noble, Scribd, Amazon, and so on where it can be downloaded in pdf. Hill's previous book, Blue Nocturne (Dos Madres Press) celebrates the night, accepts insomnia, prizes cave paintings, hungers for new beginnings. Dos Madres also brought the poetry collection, And We’d Understand Crows Laughing, April 2012. The poems meditate on belongings, the tides, red trucks, water tapestries, our place and role on the planet. His bilingual chapbook, Mundane Rites / Ritos mundanos, was a finalist in the Sow’s Ear Chapbook contest. He translated Miguel Barnet’s Biography of a Runaway Slave, and three other novels for Curbstone Press, two of them winners of the Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz Prize. He has also translated poetry by Alvaro Mutis, Javier Campos, David Huerta, and most recently by Jorge Fernández Granados. More information is available at www.wnickhill.net.
