Established in 1990, Beat Book Shop specializes in “all things American or surreal—or both.” The shop also sells used records and books on music.
Boulder Book Store is the largest independent bookstore in Boulder, Colorado. It hosts more than two hundred events every year. Cellar Door Books is an independent and locally owned bookstore for all ages in the Canyon Crest Town Center in Riverside, California. Cellar Door Books sponsors storytimes, book clubs, puppet shows, writing groups, many, many authors, and a welcoming staff that really knows books.
The Moravian Book Shop, the oldest bookstore in the world, was founded in 1745 when the Moravian Church appointed Samuel Powell of the Church’s Crown Inn on the South Side of the Lehigh River to operate a bookstore. After several locations, the Moravian Book Shop was moved to the church’s publications building near the Central Moravian Church in 1871. Today, the Moravian Book Shop’s home is this same site on Historic Main Street in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
Imprint Bookstore has been serving Port Townsend, Washington—a Victorian seaport along the Salish Sea—for nearly 50 years. They offer writing workshops, the occasional reading, and of course, loads of book recommendations.
Liberty Bay Books was established in 1977 and was purchased by children’s authors, Suzanne Selfors and Walker Ranson in 2020. The store carries new books with a strong focus on the Pacific Northwest. They also have a large Nordic section.
Poor Richard’s Bookstore is named for past Kentucky poet laureate Richard Taylor and is owned by Lizz Taylor. The only independent bookstore in Kentucky’s state capitol, Poor Richard’s offers thousands of new and used books. In addition, the book store opens into the neighboring Kentucky Coffee Tree Cafe which opens into Completely Kentucky, a unique offering of fines crafts and gourmet foods.
