Jentel Artist Residency

The Jentel Foundation offers three-week residencies from mid-January to mid-December to poets, fiction writers, and creative nonfiction writers in the scenic foothills of the Bighorn Mountains, 20 miles southeast of Sheridan, Wyoming. Writers age 25 or older who reside in the United States (or are U.S. citizens living abroad) and who are not currently enrolled at an academic institution are eligible. Each resident is provided with a private room, a separate studio, a $300 stipend, and access to a shared library, recreation area, kitchen, and living area.

Millay Arts

Millay Arts offers two- and four-week residencies from April through November, as well as weeklong group residencies in December, to poets, fiction writers, and creative nonfiction writers at Steepletop, the former estate of Edna St. Vincent Millay in Austerlitz, New York. Each residency includes a private room, studio, and meals. Residents also have access to shared living spaces, a workstation, and the Alumni and Nancy Graves Memorial libraries.

BAU at Camargo Foundation Summer Arts Residency

The BAU Institute offers a four-week residency from July 22 to August 19 to poets, fiction writers, and nonfiction writers at the Camargo Foundation in Cassis, France, a commune on the Mediterranean coast approximately 30 minutes from Marseille. Midcareer writers who have been working independently for over 10 years are eligible. Residents are provided with a private apartment and access to the Camargo campus, including a reference library, gardens, and a Greek theater. Two travel grants of $1,500 each are available.

Kimmel Harding Nelson Center for the Arts

The Kimmel Harding Nelson Center for the Arts offers two- to eight-week residencies year-round to poets, fiction writers, and creative nonfiction writers in historic Nebraska City, Nebraska. Residents are provided with lodging in a mid-century home, private studio space, and a $175 weekly stipend. For residencies from July 7 to December 19, submit up to 10 poems totaling no more than 30 pages or up to two stories, essays, or book chapters totaling no more than 7,500 words; a résumé; two artist statements; and contact information for two references with a $35 application fee by March 1.

The Bogliasco Foundation offers monthlong residencies from January to May and from September to December to poets, fiction writers, and creative nonfiction writers in the coastal fishing village of Bogliasco, Italy, seven miles southeast of Genoa. Residents are provided with a private room, workspace, and meals, and are invited to attend cultural events in Bogliasco and Genoa. Aldo and Estella Leopold Residency

The Aldo and Estella Leopold Residency offers monthlong residencies from May through October to poets, fiction writers, and nonfiction writers in the late environmental essayist Aldo Leopold’s cabin in Tres Piedras, New Mexico. Writers exploring “the relevance of Aldo Leopold’s ideas to 21st century cultural and environmental issues” and/or “committed to reshaping the cultural story about the relationship between humans and nature” are eligible. An additional residency is offered in a single-room casita overlooking the Galisteo Basin Preserve in Galisteo, New Mexico.

Creekside Arts Artist-Residency Program

Hambidge Creative Residency Program

Hambidge offers residencies of two weeks to two months from February through December to poets, fiction writers, and creative nonfiction writers on 600 forested acres in the Blue Ridge Mountains of northern Georgia. Each resident is provided with a private cottage, which includes a bedroom, a studio, a full kitchen, and a bathroom. The cost of the residency is $250 per week; meals are included. Limited financial aid scholarships and several merit-based Distinguished Fellowships are available.
