A Rally of Writers

The 37th annual A Rally of Writers conference was held on April 13 at the West Campus of Lansing Community College in Lansing, Michigan. The conference featured workshops, panel discussions, and readings in poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction. Participating writers included poets Laura Apol and Masaki Takahashi; fiction writers Erin Bartels, Steven Harper Piziks, Lev Raphael, Jay Whistler, and Claudia Whitsitt; and nonfiction writer Andrea King Collier. Poet Nandi Comer gave the keynote address.

National Translation Awards

American Literary Translators Association

Two prizes of $4,000 each are given annually for a book of poetry and a book of prose translated from any language into English and published in the previous year. For the poetry prize, poetry collections in translation are accepted; for the prose prize, short story collections, essay collections, novels, memoirs, and hybrid prose works in translation are accepted. Publishers may submit a book published in 2023 by March 18. The entry fee is $50 for presses that publish more than 10 titles each year and $30 for presses that publish 10 or fewer titles each year. Sarah Lawrence College Poetry Festival

The 2024 Sarah Lawrence College Poetry Festival was held from April 19 to April 21 on the Sarah Lawrence College campus in Bronxville, New York, located 30 minutes by train from New York City. The festival featured workshops, readings, panel discussions, and craft talks. An event in partnership with Alice James Books, including the release of Light Me Down: The New and Collected Poems of Jean Valentine and a commemoratory reading, took place on April 20. The faculty included poets Marie Howe, D. Nurkse, and Afaa Michael Weaver. All events were free and open to the public.
