Poetry by the Sea: A Global Conference was held from May 21 to May 24 at Mercy by the Sea, a retreat center and private beach in Madison, Connecticut. The conference featured workshops, seminars, readings, and panels. The faculty included poets Chad Abushanab, Austin Allen, Melissa Balmain, Teri Ellen Cross Davis, Anna M. Evans, David Groff, David M. Katz, Joshua Mehigan, January Gill O’Neil, Clare Rossini, and David Yezzi. Participating publishing professionals included editors Dustin Brookshire (Limp Wrist) and Allison Joseph (Crab Orchard Review).

The winner also receives a monthlong residency in a private apartment at the Toma? ?alamun Centre for Poetry in Ljubljana, Slovenia, in summer 2025. Prose poetry, hybrid works, and translations of works of poetry by living writers from any language into English (with the relevant permission) are also eligible. Shane McCrae will judge. Lit Fest

The Lighthouse Writers Workshop’s 2024 Lit Fest was held from June 7 to June 14 online and at the Lighthouse Writers Workshop headquarters in Denver. The festival featured weekend and weeklong workshops, craft seminars, salons, business panels, and agent consultations for poets, fiction writers, and creative nonfiction writers. The faculty included poet Jane Hirshfield; fiction writers Steve Almond, Danielle Evans, Vanessa Hua, Alexandra Kleeman, and Claire Messud; and nonfiction writers Emily Rapp Black, Amitava Kumar, T Kira Māhealani Madden, and Meghan O’Rourke.

New York State Summer Writers Institute

The 37th annual New York State Summer Writers Institute was held from June 23 to July 20 at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs. The program featured two- and four-week workshops in poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction for in-person attendees. Manuscript tutorials, public readings, and student-led panel discussions with writers-in-residence were also available for enrolled students.
