Community Book Center

Founded by Vera Warren-Williams, a former teacher in the New Orleans public school system, Community Book Center is a bookstore featuring African-centered books, art, fabric, gifts and more. The space is also available to schools, churches, community events for storytelling, book clubs, performance venue, meeting space, and book fairs.

Pass Christian Books

Pass Christian Books share a two-story building with Cat Island Coffeehouse and overlooks the Gulf of Mexico in an inviting and stimulating spot to browse books, relax, converse, and meet friends. The second floor is known as the Mississippi Loft for its focus on Mississippi authors and subjects. 

Serving the Mississippi Gulf Coast since 2002, the bookstore has organized and hosted over one hundred and fifty author and book events.

Book Suey

Book Suey is a cooperatively owned and democratically run bookstore that provides access to books, connection to local writers and publishers, and meaningful conversation in a safe and welcoming environment. Opened in 2017, the store is located inside Bank Suey and is a community-driven operation owned and supported by members. They host author events and readings and their hours of operation are Wednesdays and Fridays from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM, and Saturdays and Sundays from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM.

Green Brain Comics

Green Brain Comics, along with the Emerging Writers Network, hosts Brain Candy, a free, curated live program of prose, music, poetry, and visual art. Brain Candy readings occur every third Monday of the month with new monthly guests.

The shop also hosts book club discussions, comic book signings and release parties, and movie screenings.

Scuppernong Books

Scuppernong Books opened in December 2013 and has been an essential part of the rebirth of downtown Greensboro ever since. The general interest/literary community bookstore features fiction and poetry titles, along with a children’s section and a broad range of general interest titles. A café within the store serves organic coffee and espresso, wine and beer, and fresh sandwiches made in house. Scuppernong Books hosts hundreds of events and readings per year, bringing writers from across the country and around the state.

Lit. Bar

Slated to be the only bookstore in the Bronx, the Lit. Bar encourages curious readers and welcomes literary, art, and community gatherings—connecting the great pastimes of social drinking and introverted reading. Offering a carefully curated selection of general books, gift items, and programming, the bookstore hosts author events, wine tastings, poetry slams, and children’s storytime readings.

East City Bookshop

East City Bookshop has become a gathering place for book lovers of all ages since opening in 2016. The friendly staff offers favorite book picks, and there are author events, book clubs, and community events throughout the year. 

Source Booksellers

Source Booksellers is an independent bookstore in Detroit’s Midtown district that specializes in nonfiction books. They also host literary readings, book talks, and conversations with local and national authors; mind, body, and spirit classes and workshops; and other community events.

Terrace Books

In 2013, the owners of Community Bookstore took over another neighborhood bookshop, renamed it Terrace Books, and stocked it with a mix of new, collectible, and curated used books. Terrace Books is a neighborhood bookstore in Windsor Terrace in Brooklyn.
