The 2025 Macondo Writers Workshop will be held from July 21 to July 27 at Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas. The program features writing workshops, seminars, and free public readings for poets, fiction writers, and nonfiction writers who also identify as social activists. The faculty includes poet Kevin Young; poet and fiction writer Benjamin Alire Sáenz; poet, fiction writer, and nonfiction writer Cristina Rivera Garza; and nonfiction writer Sarah Schulman. Voices of the Wilderness Artist in Residence Program

January/February 2025

The U.S. Forest Service, the National Park Service, and the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service offer one- to two-week residencies from June through August to poets, fiction writers, and creative nonfiction writers who wish to take part in stewardship projects in the wilderness of Alaska. Residents are paired with a wilderness ranger with whom they explore the national forests, parks, or refuges, while assisting with research, fieldwork, and other light ranger duties.

Tinker Mountain Writers’ Workshop Summer Residential Program

The annual Tinker Mountain Writers’ Workshop will be held from June 8 to June 12 at the Hollins University campus in Roanoke, Virginia. Jentel Artist Residency

January/February 2025

The Jentel Foundation offers three-week residencies from mid-January to mid-December to poets, fiction writers, and creative nonfiction writers in the scenic foothills of the Bighorn Mountains, 20 miles southeast of Sheridan, Wyoming. Writers age 25 or older who reside in the United States (or are U.S. citizens living abroad) and who are not currently enrolled at an academic institution are eligible. Each resident is provided with a private room, a separate studio, a $300 stipend, and access to a shared library, recreation area, kitchen, and living area.

Millay Arts

Millay Arts offers two- and four-week residencies from April through November, as well as weeklong group residencies in December, to poets, fiction writers, and creative nonfiction writers at Steepletop, the former estate of Edna St. Vincent Millay in Austerlitz, New York. BAU at Camargo Foundation Summer Arts Residency

January/February 2025

The BAU Institute offers a four-week residency from July 22 to August 19 to poets, fiction writers, and nonfiction writers at the Camargo Foundation in Cassis, France, a commune on the Mediterranean coast approximately 30 minutes from Marseille. Midcareer writers who have been working independently for over 10 years are eligible. Residents are provided with a private apartment and access to the Camargo campus, including a reference library, gardens, and a Greek theater. Two travel grants of $1,500 each are available.
